Update to the current schedules for the US Navy AFN broadcast on their website and NPR. They indicate that the NPR broadcast schedule isn't correct and made a correction to the schedule for the Guam broadcast. Below is the new accurate schedule for AFN shortwave transmissions. Switchover from night to day, etc is based on local time at the transmitter site.

The following non-English broadcasts, are provided to our national and international hobbyist adept in foreign language services, that include Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu. English language shortwave broadcast may be found in the current edition of Monitoring Times - Shortwave Guide currently on sale at newsstands across the country.
We are also including Egypt's Radio Cairo,
All India Radio and Radio Pakistan in various languages. These station's may
also have current news and headlines relating to the current regional situation.
The Voice of Indonesia may also be worth monitoring since it is a predominately
Islamic nation. We added information for two other broadcasters, Libya's Voice
of Africa and Radio Algeria.
A couple of additional notes worth mentioning: Some station's
will update their frequencies for the winter B01 broadcasting session effective
October 28, 2001. Many Islamic nations will extend their broadcasting hours for
Ramadan in November.

VOA EXPANDS BROADCASTS TO AFGHANISTAN AND THE MIDDLE EAST
In order to cover more thoroughly the unfolding events following U.S. terrorists attacks, the Voice of America has expanded news broadcasts in Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto and Urdu to the Middle East and South and Central Asia (including Afghanistan). Broadcasts feature expanded coverage of events in the United States and the region. The daily broadcasts were increased as follows.
* Pashto extended by 30 minutes for a total of 1.75 hours.
* Dari extended by 30 minutes for a total of 1.75 hours.
* Urdu added 1 half-hour program for a total of 2 hours.
* Arabic added 4 half-hour programs for a total of 9 hours.
* Farsi added 2 half-hour programs for a total of 4.5 hours.
Arabic, broadcast to 21 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and
Farsi, broadcast primarily to Iran, were expanded beginning on
Sept. 11, 2001. Pashto and Dari, broadcast to Afghanistan and Pakistan, and
Urdu, broadcast to Pakistan and India, were expanded
beginning the early hours of Sep-18, 2001. VOA's additional programming is
broadcast via shortwave and mediumwave (AM) radio and are live-streamed on the
Internet at <www.voanews.co>..
A survey of adult males in Afghanistan indicates VOA has an estimated weekly listeners of approximately 80 percent. VOA listeners surveyed indicated high regard for the relevance and credibility of the station's programming - - 94 percent agreed VOA programs were "relevant to my interests," and 72 percent agreed that "VOA gives you the facts and lets you form your own opinions."
